To Be Disconnected

Senior Thesis Project

7x7 Illustrated Poetry Book

Mixed Media Watercolor (Digital & Traditional)

"To be Disconnected" is an illustrated poetry book that takes the form of vignettes, delving into the complexities of living as a non-white individual in predominantly white areas. Through both written and visual means, my work explores themes of homesickness, isolation, and culture shock, delving into what defines a sense of home and what can lead someone to feel out of place in their environment.

Inspired by a series of interviews, each chapter is based on individual experiences, allowing for a range of perspectives to be shared. The book specifically focuses on the Latinx experience, with two chapters written in Spanish and three in English.

Above all, my intention in creating this book is to provide a safe space for those who may be feeling homesick, isolated, or alienated. For those who do not feel at home in the places they call home, "To be Disconnected" is a reflection of their experiences and a reminder that they are not alone in their struggles.

This project consist of an 84 page Black and White hard cover dummy book, finalized cover art, and 8 finalized Illustrations rendered in the style intended for the final book.

This Book is yet to be published.
